Harry Bertoia was a metalwork artist known best for his architectural sculptures. He claimed that he began carving sculptures when his jewelry designs “kept getting larger and larger.” Rago Auctions offers the work of Harry Bertoia in the upcoming Modern Design auction. Made of beryllium copper and brass, the artist’s sculpture is composed of two groups of metal rods, 72 on each side of the piece. Among other works of art, an incised wood-fired stoneware sculpture by Peter Voulkos is a highlight of the sale. The stacked clay sculpture is cast in bronze.
On the island of Murano, Lino Tagliapietra became an apprentice glassblower at age 11. He was regarded as a master glassmaker by the age of 21. One of Tagliapietra’s available pieces, entitled small Batman, is a hand-blown glass sculpture executed in 2002. Explore the full catalog and register to bid online on Bidsquare
