Giacomo Balla, an Italian painter, was an early advocate of Futurism, and his geometric artwork often explored movement and light. Balla first developed an interest in visual art while working in a lithograph printing shop at the age of nine. He lists the thousand longest rivers in the world on a color screenprint, with block letters spelling the names of the rivers placed in descending order of their lengths.
