Offered in Los Angeles Modern Auctions’ upcoming sale is Carole Feuerman’s 1998 resin sculpture titled Neptune along with the books From Studio to Foundry: Three Decades of Sculpture (2000) and Carole A. Feuerman: Sculpture (1999). Carole Feuerman is an American hyperrealist artist known for her sculptures of swimmers and bathers. She has been quoted as saying, “Swimming and water have fascinated me for as long as I can remember, and as a result, have become the essence of my inspiration for my pieces.” The available sculpture depicts a nude female form with one foot on a marble block, drying herself off with a yellow towel.
Another piece of art highlighted in the upcoming Modern Art & Design Auction is a color lithograph from the Russian-French artist Marc Chagall. The 1961 lithograph is titled La Baie des Anges (from Nice et la Côte d’Azur) and shows a mermaid holding flowers against a moonlit background. A round clay plate from Pablo Picasso can also be found, along with a signed 1974 lithograph by Joan Miró for UNESCO and a 1979 Muhammad Ali lithograph titled Let My People Go. Rounding out the auction is a photorealistic drypoint piece from Vija Celmins. For more information on that work, view this Auction Daily article.
