Louis Icart’s Portrait de Fanny Leads Autumn Sale of Modern & Contemporary Art by Dane Fine Art
Sep 28, 2023 12:00 EDTLouis Icart (French, 1888 – 1950) impressed his aunt with his talent in drawing at an early age. She brought Icart with her to Paris in 1907. There, he dedicated himself to painting, drawing, and etching. Soon, he designed his works and title pages for the magazine La Critique Théâtrale. Icart was in demand and hired by numerous fashion houses. Icart’s drawings were particularly fashionable during the Art Deco period. In 1914, he met and married Fanny Volmers, an employee of the Paquin fashion house. She was his muse, modeling for many of his works. Portrait de Fanny, completed in 1935 by Louis Icart, is a unique oil on canvas of Fanny Volmers Icart. It is a hand-signed painting leading the upcoming Autumn Sale of Modern & Contemporary Art, offered by Dane Fine Art. Icart painting enthusiasts can also consider other works like Le The au Jardin, an original oil on canvas available in this sale.
An artwork by Andy Warhol titled Physiological Diagram is also of interest. It is a unique artwork created using synthetic polymer paint on HMP Paper. There is an authentication stamp en verso from the estate of Andy Warhol. Not many pieces like these are available. Warhol’s studio was known for creating multiple screenprints of similar subjects, but this one stands out. It was procured from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts in New York. The auction will offer a plethora of fine art, photography, posters, decorative art, and sculptures.
