Light of Africa Diamond Leads Christie’s Magnificent Jewels Auction at 103.49 CaratsJun 08, 2022 10:00 EDT
Leading the Magnificent Jewels auction at Christie’s is the Light of Africa diamond. It weighs 103.49 carats. This massive emerald-cut diamond was cut from a 299.3-carat piece of rough, uncovered in 2021 by Petra Diamonds at the Cullinan diamond mine in South Africa. The stone is the third-largest, high-quality white diamond discovered at the Cullinan mine, which has produced some of the most significant diamonds in history. The Light of Africa diamond has zero imperfections and D color, plus excellent polish and symmetry. It comes with GIA and portrait reports.
The auction will bring 99 carefully selected lots from Cartier, Bulgari, and Tiffany, as well as items from Ann and Gordon Getty’s collection. A ruby and diamond necklace from Cartier is notable. Oval to cushion mixed-cut Burmese rubies hang from the platinum and yellow gold frame decked with round, baguette, and marquise-cut diamonds. The necklace was created in 1950 and is marked and numbered by Cartier. All of the gems come with AGL reports. Another notable ruby is set in a Bulgari ring. The star of the ring is an oval cabochon-cut Burmese ruby. The ruby is circled by round and single-cut yellow diamonds set in platinum and yellow gold. It was created in 1970 by Bulgari and is accompanied by an AGL report. Find the listed items and more on Christie’s and register to place a bid.
