John Nieto’s Lakota Dancer and Porfirio Salinas’ Texas Landscape Highlight the Upcoming Sale by Vogt Auction Texas

John Nieto (1936 – 2018) was an American post-war and contemporary artist recognized for his Native American-themed painting, graphics, etchings, and sculptures. An active resident of New Mexico, Nieto graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1959. He often worked with intense primary colors and applied bold strokes to create depth in his compositions. Lakota Dancer, an acrylic on canvas work by John Nieto, is available in the upcoming Texas & Western Art auction, presented by Vogt Auction Texas. This painting highlights a Lakota dancer dressed in traditional attire with headgear.  

Texas Landscape, by Porfirio Salinas (1910 – 1973), is also a leading lot. Born in Bastrop, Texas, Salinas rendered several landscape paintings of Central Texas during springtime. The available lot is painted in the late American Impressionist style and characterized by a warm, chromatic palette. Salinas’ interest in art began at a young age.
