Important European Collection of Russian Art, Plus Other Properties
Apr 30, 2020 10:30 BST - May 16, 2020 10:30 BSTFeatured in the upcoming MacDougall Art auction of Russian and European paintings are several influential artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. The work of Léopold Survage, a Finnish-born French artist, is among the highlighted lots. Survage was best known for his abstract depictions of city scenes. His work helped bridge the gap between Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism after he came under the influence of André Masson in the 1930s. Available in this auction is an oil painting by Survage from 1961.
Another leading lot is a painting titled Standing Nude from the Back by Jurij Pavlovic Annenkov. This painting shows the clear outline of a nude female figure. Annenkov’s work frequently incorporates gestural lines and textures. Also featured is Konstantin Korovin’s Impressionist painting capturing a scenic view of the Eiffel Tower at night.
