This painting is framed in a period gilt wood frame. Ilya Yefimovich Repin (1844 – 1930) was a Ukraine-born Russian artist. His portraits gained attention for being psychologically revealing. His subjects were political, literary, and artistic figures like Mikhail Glinka and Leo Tolstoy, with whom he had a long friendship.
