Historical Native American Artifacts and Contemporary Jewelry to Sell at North American Auction Company

The latest sale from North American Auction Company, which will be available both live and online, particularly highlights a collection of Native American and Western artifacts from the American Plains. Among the top lots is a Cheyenne beaded hide bowcase, quiver, and arrows set from circa 1860. Tanned buffalo hide covers the bowcase and quiver, which are accented by hand-sewn glass trade seed beads in a geometric pattern. The hunters and warriors of the Plains Nations have historically carried bows and arrows such as the present example, using them to both hunt food and protect themselves. The weapons are specially designed to be carried on horseback, being light, fast, and resistant to damage. Another key Native American lot in the catalog is a Plains painted buffalo robe from circa 1870. This robe is covered in an intricate pattern of feathers, which are arranged in concentric circles and tipped in black. 

Key jewelry lots in this event include a 1970s coral eagle claw cuff bracelet designed by Ben Nighthorse Campbell. This piece was formerly housed at the Denver Art Museum before entering the private market. Campbell is a politician best known for his years representing Colorado in the United States House of Representatives and the Senate. He has also made jewelry, learning techniques from his fathers and exploring non-traditional methods to make his artistic pieces. A 39-carat emerald, diamond, and platinum necklace will also be available, alongside a diamond and platinum necklace that features a pale blue 37.66-carat aquamarine from Oscar Friedman.
