Gorham Tea Kettle and Flying Cloud Clipper Ship Model Lead Willow Auction House’s Upcoming Sale
Nov 17, 2022 11:00 ESTAfter Dutch traders introduced tea to Europe around 1610, it became a quintessential infusion in the Western world. The beverage was served in fine silver and ceramic vessels. Later, American silversmiths were particularly inspired by the Continental and English styles of teapots. One such vintage American Gorham sterling silver tilting tea kettle on stand is a key highlight of the upcoming sale, presented by Willow Auction House. The burner, stand, and kettle are marked “Gorham Sterling” with lion passant, anchor, and G devices. Gorham was one of the most influential American silver manufacturing companies of its time. Another noteworthy American lot is a model of the famous record-setting clipper ship “Flying Cloud” on a stand with a glass case. Built by Donald McKay, it has a plaque inside the case with important information inscribed on it.
The sale features a dining or conference table influenced by the style of Frank Lloyd Wright. The 20th-century piece has a large table top on four pedestal form legs. A Viking Professional gas stove and oven also leads the listings. It includes four burners, a vent, and an electric oven.
