Fine Books and Manuscripts including Americana

The Fine Books and Manuscripts Including Americana auction, offered by Hindman, is a collection of maps, fine press books, and Americana items. Highlights include a complete private collection of decorative and artistic books, many of which were produced by American printers on the West Coast. Among the books for sale, a fine Houghton Mifflin set of The Lord of The Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien stands out. Within the set, The Fellowship of the Ring and The Return of the King were produced in the original prints of the first editions. Another notable lot in this sale is an unpublished typescript poem by Ray Bradbury, circa 1974, titled “The Nay-Sayers.” 

A featured suite of jewelry created for Mrs. Ulysses S. Grant incorporates wood from the tree at Appomattox under which Robert E. Lee surrendered. The suite includes a hinged hair comb, a brooch, and a pair of earrings with acorns and oak leaves. Each item is set in 18-karat yellow gold with black enamel accents.
