Fine Art by Anton Otto Fischer and Wilson Irvine Available With John Moran Auctioneers
May 09, 2023 15:00 EDTLeading the upcoming California & American Fine Art sale from John Moran Auctioneers is an original oil on canvas painting titled Brawl on the Beach by Anton Otto Fischer. Known for his work with The Saturday Evening Post, Fischer was among the most gifted maritime artists of modern times, portraying the sea in ships constructed of wood and steel and how it felt to sail upon it. As a result of Fischer’s naval and maritime art contribution to patriotic propaganda during World War I, he gained great popularity, and during World War II, Fischer’s paintings had already inspired naval admiration among warship men. Fischer illustrated for such popular magazines as Life, the Country Gentleman, Popular Magazine, and The Saturday Evening Post, the magazine that featured over 400 illustrations by him. Several of the illustrations in the magazine were inspired by this painting.
Another artwork of note in the catalog is View of an Oak Tree by Wilson Irvine. This American Impressionist’s paintings are saturated with a convincing sense of light. For more information on the California & American Fine Art sale, visit Bidsquare and browse other online auctions.
