European-Cut Diamond Ring & Boivin Violet Brooch Highlight Important Jewelry Auction by Doyle

One old European-cut diamond ring is leading the upcoming Important Jewelry Auction, presented by Doyle. The central diamond weighs 5.09 carats. It is decorated on the side by two tapered baguette-cut diamonds. The central European-cut diamond has F color and VVS1 clarity, according to its GIA report. Another notable piece of jewelry in the sale is a Van Cleef & Arpels Kashmir sapphire ring. The central cushion-shaped sapphire weighs 3.04 carats. The ring also has 24 round diamonds weighing approximately 1.45 carats in the halo and the band. The sapphire is from Kashmir and has no indications of heating or treatment, verified by accompanying Gubelin report.

Another notable lot in the catalog is a ‘Violet’ clip brooch by René Boivin. It resembles a cluster of flowers with movable oval pink tourmalines, round rubies, and four leaves of round green garnets. It is signed by René Boivin, with maker’s mark and French assay marks. The gemstones are set in 18-karat gold. This brooch is from the Sharon Blaisedell Casdin collection. René Boivin (1864 – 1917) founded his namesake firm in Paris during the 1890s. Boivin is considered to have produced some of the most original and finely wrought jewels of the 20th century. What set the company’s jewelry apart was the use of colored stones and modern and sculptural designs. René’s wife Jeanne Boivin (1871 – 1959), as well as Suzanne Vuilereme, Juliette Moutarde, and Jeanne’s daughter, Germaine Boivin, produced some of the most well-known Boivin jewels.
