Day 1: Luxury Estates & Private Collections

When an object is described as “larger than life,” it is usually about importance rather than size. However, this idiom applies— in both a literal and figural sense—to the two-day August auction by Great Gatsby’s Auction Gallery. It is a sale of magnitude and astounding proportions, and many pieces are truly larger than life. 1,100 distinct lots will be available over both days, with categories ranging from furniture and sculpture to jewelry and decorative art. 

Day 1: A strong opening, the first day takes samples from centuries of design and decorative art. The leading lot is an early 20th-century pool table that sports luxury details (enamel and mother of pearl diamond accents) and a satinwood inlay. This collection is expansive and whimsical, including a colorful wall weaving sculpture and a Japanese monkey teapot.
