Active in the late 1890s, William Moorcroft was an English potter associated with the Art Nouveau style. Moorcroft pioneered a new Florian Ware design, hand-decorated and outlined in trailed slip using a technique known as tube lining. Throughout his career, Moorcroft centered his work on Florian Ware, which won him popularity and a gold medal at the St. Louis International Exhibition in 1904. For over a decade, this pottery design produced many different patterns that were hailed for their aesthetics. The upcoming Collector’s Auction, presented by Whitley’s Auctioneers, will offer two Moorcroft flambé vases.
The auction also features several pieces of silverware and sculpture. A Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre vase is particularly highlighted. A British company, Wedgwood has a long history of creating porcelain adorned with Neoclassical and antique motifs. The available vase, from Wedgwood’s Fairyland Lustre collection, was designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones. The center of the vase is engraved with scenes of elves, boats, and mushrooms. Timepieces, sculptures, manuscripts, and dolls will be available in this auction as well. Explore the full listings and register to bid online on Bidsquare.
