The first Cartier Panthère design was a custom piece created in 1948 for the Duchess of Windsor. It used an emerald from the Duke’s collection. One of the highlights in the California Jewels auction, presented by Bonhams, is a Cartier gold and diamond Panthère bracelet with polished gold links. It is accented with round diamonds, weighing approximately 0.75 carats. Another key lot is a Georges Braque white gold and pavé diamond ring, designed in the form of a bird in flight. The sale also showcases a turtle pin with movable limbs and emerald eyes.
A tanzanite and diamond necklace set will be highlighted as well. The centerpiece is a 23.25-carat cushion-cut tanzanite gem, accented with round diamonds. Popularly known as tanzanite, the blue and violet variety of zoisite is found exclusively in Tanzania. The gemstone was named after the country after it was discovered there.
