Avenue Auctions Offers Paul Gauguin’s ‘Peasant Girl’ and Romero Britto Artworks
May 03, 2024 19:00 EDTFrench artist Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin used bright and bold colors for rendering eye-catching canvases. Born in 1848, Gauguin’s works have been associated with Post-Impressionist, Synthetist, and Symbolist art movements. A pastel and charcoal on paper by Paul Gauguin will soon be available in Avenue Auctions’ upcoming sale. The offered work belongs to a local art collector whose father in turn brought it from the artist. Titled Peasant Girl, the artwork has a family lineage dating back to the late 1800s. Another key work in the catalog is a watercolor on board painting by Spanish artist Juan Gris. The artist was a key figure in Cubism, the first Modernist art movement.
Additional lots of interest in the catalog include a pyramid art installation by Brazilian Pop artist and sculptor Romero Britto. Born in Recife, Brazil in 1963, Britto is largely a self-taught artist. He often infuses elements of Pop Art, Cubism, and graffiti in his works. This piece features vibrant colors and bold patterns. Interested collectors can also consider works by Antonio Saura, Keith Haring, Susie Sharpe, Leroy Neiman, and others.
