Artworks by Friedel Dzubas and Anna Catherine Wiley, Gorham Sterling Tea Set in Case Auctions’ Upcoming Two-Day Sale

The upcoming two-day sale from Case Auctions offers a wide selection of fine artworks, jewelry, decorative art items, Asian antiques, and more. Friedel Dzubas’ High Pass painting is among the top lots from the first session. It is dated 1976 on reverse, along with the M. Knoedler Gallery label. This magna (acrylic) on canvas is visually striking and displays the artist’s mastery over light, color, and scale. Dzubas (1915 – 1994), a German-American Abstract Expressionist painter, is renowned for his large-scale, vibrant paintings. He drew inspiration from nature, Greek mythology, Christianity, and travel for his compositions. Another notable lot is an oil on canvas titled Woman with Green Parasol by American artist Anna Catherine Wiley (1879 – 1958). As the title indicates, this work depicts a seated woman in a white dress with a green parasol in her left hand.

The second day of this auction particularly highlights silverware, furniture, and decorative arts. A five-piece Gorham sterling silver tea set from the Warner / Lea family of Nashville is noteworthy. It includes tea and coffee pots, open sugar and waste bowls, and cream jugs, all with rectangular bodies. Additional features are fluted pedestals and spouts, molded rims, and handles. Among furniture, a Southern Sheraton sugar chest with redded legs and an Eames black lounge chair with ottoman stand out.
