Antique Cartier Vanity Pieces & Dior Gecko Motif Brooch Lead Bonhams’ Upcoming Sale
Jul 18, 2023 12:00 PDT
French fashion designer Christian Ernest Dior was the founder of the famous fashion house, Christian Dior SE. During his lifetime, he worked with several fashion icons and won various awards. Dior’s love for nature greatly influenced his creations. Since the 1940s, animals and floral motifs featured in his designs. Lizard-shaped ornamental pieces, considered to bring good luck, are one of them. A Dior gecko-motif metal brooch is a key highlight of the upcoming auction from Bonhams. Accented by crystals and black enamel, it is signed “Chr. Dior.” Another lot of interest is a David Yurman finger ring. The starburst silver ornament is styled with round diamonds and signed “DY.” The American company was one of the foremost jewelers to combine diamonds and silver.
Two antique Cartier pieces, designed circa 1925, also lead the listings. One is an enamel and hardstone desk clock fashioned with a black geometric enamel frame. It features a carved banded agate body with carved onyx and pyramidal coral studs. The other is a sleek black lacquer vanity case with a foliate design of carved coral, jade cabochons and rose-cut diamonds.
