Disney’s first animation feature auction spanning three days will be hosted by Heritage Auctions. With 1,832 lots, the Animation Art Signature Auction is the largest animation auction ever held to feature varied depictions of Bugs Bunny, Snow White, Pinocchio, and the Disney Renaissance. Among the top lots in the group are the Beauty and the Beast production vertical pan background, The Little Mermaid Ariel production cel and key master background, and the Cogsworth and Mrs. Potts presentation cel with the key master background.
Included in the auction are the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs production cel on a master production background. Also from Disney’s first animation feature film comes the Snow White, Bashful, and Sneezy production cel and key master background. The auction includes 76 lots featuring Bugs Bunny. The sale also features many lots from the Disney Renaissance group of movies that are thought to be responsible for boosting animation’s popularity. Coming from the estate of artist Art Babbitt, who earned over 80 awards for his animation work, are his Disney Legend Award, animation desk, chair, and shelf, his Winsor McCay Award, and Snoopy sketch by Charles Schulz. The sale also offers the Robert Forbes Collection, which includes rare hand-painted production cels, concept art, production drawings, and more.
