A prominent Pop artist of the 1960s, Andy Warhol experimented with media ranging from painting and sculpture to film and silkscreening. Many of Warhol’s known photographs capture the mix of individuals who passed through his New York studio. The upcoming Andy Warhol: Better Days auction, offered by Christie’s, will present a selection of Warhol’s photography work. Offered in collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the auction features 60 selected images. Proceeds from the auction will go to the Foundation’s emergency relief fund to support artists who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In Warhol’s own words, “The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do.” This auction will include two Polaroid shots of Warhol and another of him standing with Henry Geldzahler, an art curator. Also offered are several prints from Warhol’s travels, showing the Colorado mountains and Montauk beaches. Gelatin silver prints of tulips on New York’s Park Avenue and aerial images of mountains and landscapes are other notable items.
