Christie’s will present the upcoming American Art Online auction from late July to early August. Among the top lots is a watercolor painting by Jamie Wyeth, the descendent of two other leading American painters. The youngest Wyeth has spent most of his time on the Maine coast, where he draws inspiration from the nearby landscapes. One such painting, titled Open Sea, will be available in this event.
Also on display is an oil on canvas piece, titled The Red Mill, by Childe Hassam. He was among the leaders who established the American Impressionist movement in the early 20th century. Hassam’s work frequently incorporated his travels, and his style could be characterized by contrasting light and pastel colors. An oil painting from American Impressionist Mary Cassatt is also featured. The lot shows a portrait of two sisters, seated side by side. The sale also includes the works of acclaimed American artists such as Elie Nadelman, Milton Avery, and Henry F. Farny. Those interested in these works can register to bid on Christie’s.
