New Hampshire-born painter Alfred Bricher (1837 – 1908) was associated with the Hudson River School style of art that emphasized landscapes and luminism. As someone who loved the coastal life, Bricher often explored the reflection and refraction of light on seascapes and landscapes in his paintings. One such artwork is a key highlight of the upcoming sale from 1stbid. It depicts a prudently-juxtaposed composition of rocks, sky, and sea. Particularly striking is the portrayal of wave-motion and clouds, as well as Alfred Bricher’s fascination with sunlight and shadows.
