Luba Female Caryatid Stool

Luba Female Caryatid Stool

Measurements: 15.5″ h x 12″ w x 10″ l & 10lbs
Medium: Wood, pigment

This is an incredible piece! Rich with patina, this attractive figural stool features a woman seated on the ground with beautiful carved detail. The Luba people from Dr Congo rarely use royal stools for sitting. They serve as a sacred badge within the king’s palace, used as a metaphorical ‘seat of kingship’. The female carayatid represent the Luba’s idea that the female body is used as a spiritual receptacle.
