The Vienna Secession art movement was formed at the end of the 19th century by a group of Austrian painters, architects, and sculptors who wanted to modernize Austrian art. Stair presents the works of prominent architects and furniture makers from the Vienna Secessionist and Modern Design movements in their upcoming auction. Architect Adolf Loos gained inspiration for his interior designs from his travels between England and the United States. The featured ‘elephant’ table by Loos is among the notable furniture lots in this sale. Loos manufactured the brass-mounted, mahogany, and marble tile ‘elephant’ table in various styles.
Swedish carpet maker Marta Maas-Fjetterstrom had just started her career as a teacher when the Lund Museum of Cultural History commissioned her to paint her first textile drawings. With commissions that included the design of the Nobel Prize ceremony rugs, it was in 1919 that she established her textile studio in Båstad. Today, many of her textile pieces are displayed in museums. This auction showcases an Ortagarden carpet from the MMF studio. Also highlighted is designer silverware by Josef Hoffmann. Interested collectors can also explore paintings, earthenware, lamps, bronze sculptures, and glassware. Explore the full listings and register to bid online on Bidsquare.
