Upcoming Stair Galleries Sale Offers Rare Collectibles From Gayfryd Steinberg Collection
Oct 20, 2021 11:00 EDTThe upcoming Stair Galleries auction will offer glimpses from the collection of Gayfryd Steinberg. Pieces available in the event represent the collector’s appreciation for Classical history and literature. Two Regency globes on mahogany stands by William and Thomas M. Bardin are on offer. The globes depict the accurate positions of nearly 6,000 stars, clusters, nebulae, and planetary nebulae based on observations from the early 1800s. Paired versions of Bardin’s 18-inch globes rarely circulate in the auction market.
Another collectible piece of furniture is a George IV brass-inlaid rosewood and parcel-gilt library table. Leather-bound books support the tabletop above giltwood paw feet. A bronze Jacob Epstein sculpture from 1943-45 titled Nude Study (Marie Tracey) is also part of the sale, as well as a set of 12 Regency-style carved mahogany dining chairs. Interested bidders can view the full catalog or place a bid on Bidsquare.
