Turner Auctions to Offer Collection of Grace Garcia, Featuring Ferdinand Waldmuller Painting
Jun 04, 2022 10:30 PDTTurner Auctions’ upcoming live event features a wide array of paintings, porcelain and vintage furniture from the personal collection of the late Grace Garcia, an avid collector. Among the top lots is Ferdinand Waldmuller’s oil painting. The piece depicts a man dressed in brown robes staring into a woman’s eyes in awe. Waldmuller was mostly active during the Biedermeier period (1814 – 1848). In 1807, he enrolled at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, where he trained under Hubert Maurer, a prominent German artist. Following this, Waldmuller studied portraiture in Presburg, Hungary. By the 1820s, Waldmuller was one of the most influential landscape painters in Austria.
Wilhelm Kray’s work will also appear in the auction. In his early career, Kray worked on landscape and portrait paintings as an apprentice under Julius Schrader and Wilhelm Schirmer. He frequently painted nymphs and mermaids in bright landscapes. The available piece shows a man on a donkey traveling with a woman and a baby. Other key items include a painting of a mother and child in the style of Raphael and a pair of Delft-style tulipieres. View more lots and register to bid online on Turner Auctions.
