The upcoming Magovsky Collection of Children’s Books sale, offered by Freeman’s, will include first and rare editions of many award-winning books from the last century. One of the recent critically acclaimed items of the collection is Last Stop on Market Street by Matt de Peña (illustrated by Robinson Christian). This is a first edition copy of the book that won both a Newbery Honor and a Caldecott Medal in 2016. It is signed by both the author and the illustrator on the book’s title page and includes a doodle of people riding a bus.
Also in the auction is a signed copy of 1,2,3 To the Zoo, written and illustrated by Eric Carle. This was Carle’s first book that he both wrote and illustrated. Another Carle example in the sale is a signed copy of The Secret Birthday Message. Additional first edition titles up for bid include The Story About Ping by Marjorie Flack, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O’Brien, and The Witches by Roald Dahl.
