The Glynn and Suzanne Crain Science Fiction Collection Online Auction #121993 offers 471 of the best science fiction and pulp fiction available. From Virgil Finlay’s A Sound of Thunder illustration to Stephen King’s first edition of Cujo, these comics, books and illustrations offered by Heritage Auctions are fundamental to any sci-fi collection.
Featured is Virgil Finlay’s 1957 original illustration from Ray Bradbury’s story “A Sound of Thunder.” The art was published in the 1957 “Wonder Stories Anthology” and then again in the 1963 version of the same name. The ink and graphite illustration comes in a silver painted frame that has some blemishes, but the art is in excellent condition.
Highlighted in the auction is the Weird Science-Fantasy Annual #1 from 1952. The book contains 128 pages of four issues from 1951 and 1952. It is tied for #5 on Overstreet’s Top Ten Sci-Fi comics list and has an estimated value of $2,325. Weird Tales – January 1925 is also included. It contains “The Festival” by H.P. Lovecraft and “The Rajah’s Gift” by E. Hoffman Price. This book is listed as scarce by Bookery’s. Even though the book has some chipping to its corners and soiling on its edges, the cover and spine are complete and unfaded. Bookery’s Guide to Pulps gives it an estimated value of $1,200.
