With a career of more than four decades, Walter Iooss is considered one of the world’s foremost sports photographers. His photographs mostly capture the renowned athletes of the 1960s through the early 2000s, from Muhammad Ali to Lebron James. The upcoming auction, presented by Christie’s, will offer 38 photographic prints of basketball, football, and baseball icons by Iooss.
A frequent subject of Iooss’ work, Michael Jordan gave his opinion: “From what I can tell, Walter has never taken a bad shot of anybody or anything.” This auction includes a 1994 chromogenic print of Jordan. This photo was taken in Chicago. Another featured lot is a black and white photograph showing a professional boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Ernie Terrell. The contest was held on February 6th, 1967 for the WBA & WBC Heavyweight Championship. Along with a portrait of Kobe Bryant, the sale holds photographs of Kevin Garnett and Sandy Koufax.
