Stonewall@50 Photographs Online

The upcoming auction Stonewall@50 Photographs Online offered by Bonhams celebrates the 50th anniversary of the riots at Stonewall in New York City.   The landmark event helped usher in a new era of gay and transgender rights and encouraged sexual freedom and expression, inspiring a generation of photographers. The auction highlights these artists and includes pieces like Herb Ritts’s ‘Vladimir I, Hollywood’ Nan Goldin’s 1991 ‘Misty doing her make-up’, Paris.  Photography from such luminaries as Annie Leibovitz and John Mapplethorpe round out the collection, and a percentage of each sale will go to the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
