Sotheby’s Brings 1999 Romanée-Conti, Château Petrus, and Rare Wines to the Auction Block
Sep 07, 2023 10:00 EDTThis upcoming auction from Sotheby’s presents an extraordinary collection of the world’s rare wines. Featuring vintage and modern wines, this auction has starting bids ranging from $300 to $220,000. Leading the collection is a set of five bottles of Romanée-Conti 1999. This exceptional French wine has an intense, deep red color and a flavorful taste. The full-bodied wine offers aromas of undergrowth, mushrooms, and truffles. It has strong notes of raspberry, strawberry, and cherry as well. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) wines are known for their premium quality and great aging potential.
Six bottles of 1953 Château Lafite are another highlight of the sale. Also from France, these wines are packed with delicate aromas, firm acidity, and textures. They come from Château Lafite Rothschild, one of the largest vineyards in Medoc, France. Petrus, the best-known Pomerol is considered the world’s most expensive Bordeaux wine. The auction offers several bottles of Petrus, produced from 1924 to 2015. Fine bottles like a 1985 La Tâche, 1982 Le Pin, Pomerol, and 1961 Château Latour are also showcased. Visit Sotheby’s to view the complete catalog and register to bid in the upcoming A Monumental Cellar sale.
