This Stair auction is a collection of private New York City art dealer and philanthropist Elaine Graham Weitzen (1920-2017). Mrs. Weitzen was founding Executive Director and a lifelong trustee of the Board of the American Friends of the Israel Museum. She worked closely with the museum to create the Billy Rose Sculpture Garden. Reflecting her work with the Museum, many of pieces in this collection are by Israeli artists such as Yehiel Shemi, Yaacov Wexler, and Yaacov Agam. One unusual and valuable piece in this collection is a sculpture by Joe Andoe, who is primarily known for his paintings, titled “My Ideal Birdbath.” Among the many works on paper are several by John MacWhinnie, one of which is estimated to be the most valuable in the auction of the artist Willem de Kooning standing in his studio among his own paintings. MacWhinnie is known for his paintings of other artists, and de Kooning was both a subject and friend. See all available items and register to bid at Stair.
