Seascape Painting by Ivan Aivazovsky, Joshua Reynolds Canvas Come to Sale with Collector Fine Art Auctions
Feb 04, 2023 11:30 ESTBest remembered for his seascape works, Russian-Armenian Romantic painter Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky was considered a prominent artist of the 19th century. He made over 6,000 paintings during his 60-year-long career. He also featured Armenian themes, battle scenes, and portraiture in his paintings. Storm Over the Black Sea, one such oil on canvas, is a key highlight of Collector Fine Art Auctions’ upcoming sale. Aivazovsky made this painting in 1893. It depicts a sinking ship and a boat with people amid a raging sea with furious waves. Like many of his other works, this painting is dedicated to water and is dominated by the Romantic style.
Another interesting painting is Portrait of Master William Cavendish by Joshua Reynolds (1723 – 1792). The painting illustrates young child William Cavendish (1783 – 1812) seated playfully astride his pet dog. Other notable lots of the coming event include La Belle Fille by William Adolphe Bouguereau, an 18th-century French gesso mirror, a Tiffany English sterling silver water pitcher, and Rufino Tamayo’s artwork Sandias.
