Rare Vases Designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones for Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre Series Come to Sale with Freeman’s

Susannah Margaretta “Daisy” Makeig-Jones was a renowned pottery designer for Wedgwood, an English luxury accessories maker. She was well known for her illustrious Fairyland Lustre series. Some of her pieces featured mythical motifs inspired by fairy tales and other legends. The upcoming auction from Freeman’s will feature one such unusual Daisy Makeig-Jones Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre bowl. The large octagonal glazed and gilded bone china piece is signed in initials, “SMM-J” (for Susannah Margaretta Makeig-Jones). Crafted in the “Firbolgs I” pattern, it has a list of Herefordshire places displayed on the top part of the interior and to the center. 

Another striking Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre vase designed and decorated by Daisy Makeig-Jones is a long glazed and gilded bone china ware. Adorned with the “Imps on a Bridge” and tree serpent patterns, it displays a printed Wedgwood Portland Vase mark and handwritten “Z5360.” A fine solid black jasperware Portland vase also leads the listings. The limited edition stoneware is finely polished and finished with a “waxy” surface.
