The Pub, Whiskey, and Memorabilia Auction, presented by Whitley’s Auctioneers, examines life in the 19th and 20th centuries across the globe. Among the highlighted lots is film stock from World War II. While the film was not inspected by Whitley’s before reaching auction, writing on the canister implies it may contain footage from the Bombing of Hiroshima, the Battle of Luzon, and the eventual surrender of the Japanese aboard the U.S.S. Missouri.
Also featured are two sets of photographic plates and negatives from photojournalist Martin Munkacsi. Working primarily in the first half of the 20th century, Munkacsi’s photography of everyday life “captured the speed and movement of the modern era,” according to the International Center of Photography. One set available in this auction is comprised entirely of black and white photographic plates and negatives taken by Munkacsi in Europe. Another comes from both Munkacsi’s time abroad and his tenure at Harper’s Bazaar in New York. The second collection includes negatives taken of a German zoo, a woman with a Great Dane, and boats on the Hudson River.
A Royal Doulton whiskey decanter is also available in this auction. Rounding out the highlighted lots is a hygrograph chart recorder from the 19th century, which was used to measure temperature and humidity. Register to bid online for these items on Bidsquare.
