Since the creation of the classic rock group Steely Dan in the 1970s, lead guitarist Walter Becker helped revolutionize pop music. Along with bandmate Donald Fagen, the group fused rock, jazz, Latin music, reggae, traditional pop, R&B, and blues. Becker was not just a musician but also a prominent collector and admirer of art. This October, Julien’s Auctions will offer more than a thousand guitars and pieces of musical equipment from the Walter Becker Collection.
Property from The Estate of Walter Becker ranges in estimate from $50 – $15,000, with an overall estimation of $2 million. Within a selection of over 600 guitars is the Sadowsky Signature Model #1 that Becker performed with. Upon the artist’s request, the guitar has a flamed maple top and a grain center. Another noteworthy piece is a factory-refinished 1954 Fender Stratocaster, usually kept in the control room of Walter Becker’s studio. Pieces like a Fano Alt De Facto Gf6 guitar and a Masco Map-15 Combo Amplifier are also available in this auction. For more information, visit Julien’s Auctions.
