Pook & Pook Presents Single-Owner Collection of Pennsylvania Furniture and Decorative Art

The latest sale from Pook & Pook, Inc. features the single-owner collection of Barry D. Hogan, a noted real estate developer and collector from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He specialized in early American glass, Americana items, and Pennsylvania folk art. These interests are well-represented in the upcoming auction. Hand-painted antiquities, including a folk art decorated poplar box from the 19th century, stand out. This piece measures over ten inches high and 13 inches wide. Painted red and white flowers decorate the box. Smaller painted wood boxes will also come under the hammer, including a black, red, and green Bucher box from 19th-century Berks County, Pennsylvania. It is painted in the style of an artisan in eastern Pennsylvania from the early 1800s. Known for their wooden document boxes painted with black backgrounds and flower motifs, the artisan’s output is collectively known as “Bucher boxes.”

Pennsylvanian furniture is also available in the upcoming sale. Notable lots in this section of the catalog include a painted poplar tall case clock from the early 19th century. Signed ‘Peter Miller,’ the clock features its original surface with yellow highlights and elaborate curvature.
