With a career spanning five decades, Helmut Newton became recognized as one of the world’s leading photographers. Capturing staged models as his subject, his work was often controversial. The upcoming Photographs auction, presented by Doyle, offers the work of Newton. The available piece shows four nude women posing. This image, titled Sie Kommen (They Are Coming), first appeared as a two-page spread in the French edition of Vogue. Shortly after its release in 1981, the 20th-century fashion photographer rose to fame.
Work by Lee Friedlander will also be displayed in this sale. The available lot includes four gelatin silver prints from the artist’s Stems series. After abandoning street photography, he began capturing the flowers that his wife arranged. Another photographer whose work stands out is Louis Faurer. For more than a decade, Faurer experimented with black and white photographs of everyday people in the street. His dark 1950 photo of a line of beaming cars is one of his best-known works. A 1980 print of this piece will be available in the sale. View each of these lots and register to bid online on Doyle’s website.
