Animal bone and tusk carving is an ancient art form practiced in China. Carved ivory articles excavated from the tombs of Shang dynasty kings are examples of this age-old connection. A pair of elaborately carved Chinese tusk sculptures with tessellated bone panels is a key highlight of the upcoming sale, presented by Akiba Antiques. It features patinated motifs of monks along with animals in relief in a landscape scene. The pieces are finished with patinated floral medallions and geometric patterns.
