Pair of Large Lapis and Gilt Bronze Urns, Herend Queen Victoria Dinner Service Lead Doyle’s Upcoming Sale

This August, Doyle will present more than 350 Asian collectibles and fine art lots in its Doyle at Home auction. Among the highlights is an elegant pair of large, impressive lapis and gilt bronze urns. They include intricate decorations on the body and sides. Each piece stands 38 inches high and has a diameter of 22 inches. Gilt bronze prominently featured in 18th-century French décor. From furniture and porcelain mounts to candlesticks and clocks, gilt bronze was widespread during this time. A gilt-bronze mounted kingwood commode in the Louis XVI style is another notable lot. 

Fine dinnerware and table settings are also part of the auction. Leading this category is a Herend porcelain partial dinnerware service set. This 100-piece cutlery includes plates, cups, saucers, bowls, trays, and more. Representing Queen Victoria’s VBO pattern, they feature stylized butterflies and colorful flowers, painted vividly. Also offered are objects like a Neoclassical-style white marble console table, an early 20th-century American sterling silver tea and coffee service set, and a pair of Samson porcelain vases and covers from the late 19th century.
