The upcoming auction by Helmuth Stone Gallery will offer more than 400 lots of Important Old Masters, Fine Art, and Antiques. Leading the event is a collection of almost human-sized paintings by eminent artists. A key piece available for sale is a monumental oil on canvas painting by Antonio Zanchi, The Death of Socrates. It depicts the final moments of philosopher Socrates where he is accepting the cup of hemlock poison which he would consume to action his execution. According to Phaedo, the Greek philosopher Plato recounts Socrate’s attempts to corrupt the Athenian youth as the reason for his punishment.
Another piece available comes from Keith Haring, Marker on Newspaper. Haring was an American artist who dedicated his work to carry social messages. Haring has used a black marker on a newspaper to create this work. It is signed and carries a stamp certifying its authenticity. Other old master paintings and works on paper, antiques, bronzes, and porcelain by Picasso and Friedrich Hammer are also available. To view the catalog or to place a bid, visit Live Auctioneers.
