Also known as the hook-lipped rhinoceros, the black rhinoceros is a species native to eastern and southern Africa. Though the rhinoceros is called ‘black,’ its colors vary from brown to gray. One of the noteworthy lots in the upcoming Oddities, Curiosities, and Wonders auction, presented by Bertolami Fine Art, is the head of a black rhinoceros. It was assembled by Zimmermann Limited in 1973 and has CITES documentation attached. The head comes complete with its original horns.
Other highlights include the complete taxidermy of a cheetah, two African elephant tusks mounted on iron chains, and a crystalized ram head from Queensland. To view the complete catalog and register to bid online, visit Bidsquare.
