Born in 1910, Narayan Shridhar Bendre was an influential pioneer of contemporary Indian art. He became interested in art after enrolling at the State Art School in Indore. As a student, Bendre was taught to observe nature and light. This learning played a key role in his career, and its influence can be seen in most of his paintings. Often depicting the daily lives of Indian people, Bendre’s works are based on his soft palette and interplay between light and shade. Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers’ Estate Fine Art & Antique Online Auction will feature a Narayan Shridhar Bendre outdoor painting. Completed in 1992, the piece shows a girl on a tree swing. Seated under the tree’s shelter is a woman looking after two young children.
Another noteworthy item in the sale is B. Prabha’s oil painting. This piece shows two women holding birds while another woman watches them. “It is my aim to paint the trauma and tragedy of women,” said the artist. Through her paintings, Prabha attempted to address the issues faced by women in her country. Prabha’s style evolved in 1956, which marked a departure from modern abstraction towards decorative figuration. View more lots on Bidsquare, and browse other online auctions.
