Moorcroft Pottery, Royal Doulton Figurines Will Be Available in March Collectors AuctionMar 23, 2022 10:00 EDT
The upcoming two-day auction, presented by Lion and Unicorn, features a decorative piece by Charles Vyse. The 1920 work depicts a nude nymph on a rooster. Charles Vyse was an English studio potter popular in the early 20th century. Vyse initially learned his craft from his father, who was a renowned pottery copper plate engraver and engineer. He established a workshop in Cheyne Row after earning his degree from the Royal College of Art.
Also showcased is a Moorcroft pottery vase designed by ceramicist William Moorcroft. He created pottery designs for Macintyre’s Aurelian Ware. His works often employed a unique technique known as tubelining, which involves squeezing a line of clay through a nozzle to embellish a centerpiece. Moorcroft was also revered for producing hand-painted Florian ware, inspired by the Art Nouveau style. Moorcroft’s innovative designs won him great popularity in the early 20th century. The second session of the March Collectors Auction emphasizes Royal Doulton figurines, ranging from character jugs to animal sculptures. Interested collectors can explore the full listings and register to bid online on Lion and Unicorn.
