Millea Bros. Ltd. Presents Three-Day Sale of Fine Art, Decorative Art, Asian Antiques, and More
May 15, 2024 10:00 EDTThis upcoming three-day auction from Millea Bros. Ltd. features a diverse selection of fine artworks, decorative art, furniture, Asian antiques, and more. Leading the first day of the sale is a color lithograph by Joan Miró, titled Cartones. Miró incorporated recurring themes with abstract elements in his works using color and form as symbols of meaning. In the Pointillism style, the artist used colorful dots to create the available image. Unlike his primary color palette, Miró employed purples and siennas alongside intense greens, yellows, and blues. He contrasted these dots of color with black lines which are closely spaced dots as well. Created in 1965, this color lithograph is pencil-signed by the artist in the lower margin. This piece of artwork is part of the catalogue of the exhibition “Cartones.”
Among the top lots on the second day of this event is a 19th-century Chinese verre eglomise painting. Verre églomisé, also known as reverse-painted glass, has its origins in pre-Roman times. The available reverse glass painting, featuring a woman holding a sheaf of wheat, is vividly colored and detailed. Bidders can also consider a Ushak carpet from the first half of the 20th century. Woven in Western Turkey, Ushak rugs feature distinctive patterns, such as big geometric shapes, large-scale floral designs, and central medallions.
