Long Beach Expo US Currency Signature Auction

The Long Beach Expo US Currency Signature Auction by Heritage Auctions is an offering of over 2,600 US currency-related items for the collector of fine and rare legal tender. Among the pieces expected to create the most interest is a newly discovered $50 gold certificate. It is a fully original and bright specimen, is the second finest known to exist, and displays the consecutive serial number to the PCGS Gem 65. It is so unique that Heritage says any final estimate is almost entirely conjecture. 

Also, up for bid is a $5, 1995 Federal Reserve Notes complete sheet block set. The sheets are from the eighth district and have serial numbers that begin with “8888.” They were part of the BEP’s special Prosperity Sheet program that was based on the Chinese calendar. Only eight blocks were used for this program, with each block having a printing of just 8,888. 

One lot that has created enough buzz that it has already exceeded its estimated final sale price is a $1, 1988A Web Federal Reserve note that is one of a very small number of web note errors known to exist.
