Lion and Unicorn to Highlight Joan Miró Lithograph, Sculpture After John Talbott Donoghue’s The Young Sophocles

Though he executed many figural sculptures, bas reliefs and paintings, he is predominantly known for a single bronze sculpture, titled The Young Sophocles. This July, Lion and Unicorn’s Art, Decor, and Collectibles Auction will feature a bronze sculpture after this famous Donoghue work. The available piece was completed in the 20th century. It is a full-body nude sculpture depicting the Greek dramatist Sophocles leading the Chorus of Victory following the Battle of Salamis in 480 BCE.
One of the showcased lots is Joan Miró’s signed lithograph from 1971. His artworks demonstrate a combination of abstract style with Surrealism.
