Le Nain Brothers Painting Reproduction, François Girardon and Pierre Lepautre’s Sculpture to Star in Upcoming Christie’s Event

Christie’s upcoming Park Avenue Collection sale presents a wide selection of fine paintings, prints, furniture, sculptures, and more. Leading the auction is an oil on canvas reproduction after the Le Nain brothers’ painting Four Figures at a Table. The artwork depicts three female characters and a boy sharing bread and water at a table in a dreary room. The three Le Nain brothers painted several scenes depicting peasant life in rural France. Another notable reproduction painting by the Le Nain brothers in the catalog is Children with a Cage. This oil-on-canvas reproduction features two brothers standing around an empty birdcage, with a cat sitting in the middle.

Beyond fine art, the auction will present a selection of sculptures, statues, and figures. Among the leading lots is a bronze creation of Aeneas carrying his father Anchises and his son Ascanius after François Girardon and Pierre Lepautre’s marble sculpture. Aeneas, the legendary Trojan hero of the Roman people, is depicted fleeing Troy during its destruction by the Greeks.
