John Moran Auctioneers to Showcase Alice Baber’s Painting and Prints by Rosângela Rennó GomesFeb 28, 2023 15:00 EST
The upcoming Art + Design event, presented by John Moran Auctioneers, will offer bidders a chance to own items by renowned artists and designers. Featured in the auction is a 1966 painting titled Axe in the Grove by Alice Baber. An American Abstract Expressionist painter, Baber mastered the technique of pouring diluted oil paint directly onto the canvas. Her earliest works were rendered in oils and she gradually added watercolors to her paintings. Axe in the Grove is an oil on canvas characterized by circles, ovals, and free forms in radiant colors.
A set of six inkjet prints in colors is also on offer. Created by Brazilian artist Rosângela Rennó Gomes, the inkjet prints are part of her Matéria de Poesia collection. Created by the overlay of multiple old slides, the lot features an industrial scene, domestic setting, buildings, and more. An art glass vase made by artists Gio Ponti and Paolo Venini in 1988 is also available. The piece has twisted striped patterns in cobalt blue, emerald green, and transparent hues.
